The stadium was built in 1949-53 and the first match was played in front of 50,000 spectators. In the 1960s-70s a new stand was built, making the stadium the largest in all of Czechoslovakia. The famous chapters of this stadium were written by the football clubs Red Star Brno and later FC Zbrojovka Brno. Nowadays a dilapidated building, abandoned since 2001.
