ABOUT FILMING LOCATIONS

Lednice Castle

Castle Refrigerator is one of the most visited monuments in our country. The 19th century Neo-Gothic reconstruction made it a romantic mansion in a style imitating English Tudor Gothic. The castle stands in one of Europe's largest parks, which includes a palm greenhouse, a Venetian fountain, a Roman aqueduct, a Chinese pavilion, a minaret and the artificial ruins of John's Castle. The whole of the Lednice-Valtice area was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1996.

Chateau Uherčice near Znojmo

The vast grounds of the state castle Uherčice includes residential and representative spaces, but also outbuildings. Together with the gardens and parks, they form an important landscape complex. It was built on the site of an original Gothic fortress from the late 15th century, which was rebuilt in the 16th century by the Krajířs of Krajk in the style of a northern Italian Renaissance mansion still forming the eastern part of the complex. The castle was declared a National Cultural Monument in 2001.

Mikulov

The first written report of the city Mikulov is dated to 1173. However, the town centre as we know it today was not established until much later. The historic centre of the town is a municipal conservation area. Here you will see, for example, a number of Renaissance houses from the first half of the 17th century. The Liechtenstein castle, later the Dietrichstein castle, the Dietrichstein tomb on the square and the most prominent natural landmark is the Holy Hill are the most unmistakable landmarks.

Protected landscape area Pálava

Protected landscape area Pálava is one of the longest inhabited places in the Czech lands. Between today's Dolní Věstonice and Pavlov there were prehistoric campsites of mammoth hunters, after which not only mammoth bones and remains of fireplaces were left, but also the world-famous Věstonice Venus. The thermophilic oak forests, vast steppes and white cliffs offer an unusual natural spectacle and the possibility of long hikes.

INTERESTING FACT FROM THE SHOOTING

For the filming of the circus scene in the riding hall of the castle in Lednice, the production needed a number of animals: in addition to camels and horses, a zebra, which was eventually played by a black and white painted donkey. A stuffed crocodile briefly appears in the panopticon's scenery as a tribute to the city of Brno and its legend of the dragon.
