The operation at Špitálka was started in 1930 and from the beginning it was one of the unique domestic plants, as it produced both heat and electricity. The heating plant was built within twenty months on a waterlogged plot of land, which workers strengthened by hammering in seven thousand wooden poles. The old boiler house with the historical piece Kolben Daněk is a reminder of the birth of modern heating in Brno and its boom.
