In the mid-1960s there was no larger and more technically equipped theatre building in Czechoslovakia. The Opera and Ballet Theatre was designed by architect Jan Víšek to include all the necessary artistic, social and technical facilities. The area in front of the theatre was reclaimed in 2015 to form a relaxation zone with a unique light fountain.
